Gustave Eiffel

Born on December 27, 1822, in the small town of Dole in eastern France, Louis Pasteur was the son of a humble tanner. A diligent student with an early passion for drawing, he eventually turned to science and entered the prestigious École Normale Supérieure.

At a time when disease was still widely attributed to mysterious "miasmas," Pasteur's remarkable curiosity and scientific rigor transformed our understanding of the living world. His pioneering research on fermentation demonstrated that these processes were caused by microscopic organisms, laying the foundations of modern microbiology.

Building on these discoveries, he devoted his work to combating diseases affecting both animals and humans. His groundbreaking studies led to entirely new methods of disease prevention through vaccination. In 1885, he achieved worldwide recognition by successfully treating a young boy bitten by a rabid dog—the first effective vaccination against rabies.

In 1888, the Pasteur Institute was founded in Paris to pursue scientific research and the fight against infectious diseases.
