Charles Antoine MANHES

Appointed a lieutenant in 1799, he makes the campaigns of Italy under the orders of Massena, Berthier

Charles Antoine is a nephew of Milhaud .He was his “aide de camp”from 1801 till 1807.
When Murat was indicated by Napoleon to occupy the throne of Naples, Manhes followed him.
 
On September 4th, 1809 he received his brigadier's appointment, and Commander of the royal order of Both Sicily in 1810.

A princely marriage opened him the doors of the napolitan aristocracy.

Wishing to destroy the robbery in Basilicata and Calabria, king Joachim charged general Manhes of this special mission.
The measures which he used to make the order return, gave him a reputation of violence and hardness.

In 1811, King Joachim made him major general and gave him a subsid in Calabria with count's title.
He became first general inspector of gendarmerie in 1812.
He had previously been appointed a commander of the Legion of Honor.
