Student engineer of the navy, he was employed in the works of the port of Rochefort and the fortifications of the island of Aix until 1762.

Embarked in Brest in 1763 for the expedition to Rio de Janeiro, he went to Santo Domingo the following year and became aide-de-camp to the Comte d'Estaing.

In 1763, the government attached him as a military engineer-geographer to the so-called "Saint-Victor" legion.

Returning to France in 1768, he was ordered to go to Corsica. He obtained there, on November 18, 1769, the patent of captain of infantry, and was charged in 1778 with the topographic map of the coasts of the Ocean, until April 13 of this year.

Sent to America with the title of Marshal-General of the Landing Troops, he found himself in the attack on Fort Sainte-Lucie in 1779, and in the assault on the fort on the island of Grenada, was wounded by a gunshot in the thigh, and became the same year Knight of Saint-Louis.

Returning to the continent at the end of this campaign, and appointed lieutenant-colonel on December 20, 1779, he continued to direct the topographic map of the coasts of the ocean until 1785, and in 1786 he was admitted to the Order of Cincinnatus.

Promoted on November 15, 1791 to the rank of adjutant-general colonel, he became chief of the general staff of the army of the western Pyrenees.

Brigadier general on March 8, 1793, he spent the following year in the army of Italy with the same functions, and drew up a report on the battle at Gilette. He received from the representative of the people attached to this army on 7 ventôse year II (February 25, 1794), the patent of general of division, and was confirmed in this rank on 25 prairial year III.

From the year VI to the year VIII, he had the general inspection of the infantry of the army of Italy, and he commanded this army ad interim during the first months of the year VII.

Chief inspector of reviews on 18 Pluviôse, member of the Legion of Honor on 4 germinal year XII, officer of the Order on 27 nivôse year XIII, and elector in the department of the Seine, he obtained his retirement on June 6, 1807 .

He died in Paris on May 3, 1814.
