Firefighter on extension ladder

The angle of the ladder to the structure should be approximately 75 degrees. The firefighter should be able to comfortably touch the rungs of the ladder with his arms stretched out. As a firefighter begins his climb, he should keep his weight even to prevent the ladder from bouncing. The firefighter should keep his eyes forward to focus on windows and potential hazards. When a firefighter is ready to enter a window, one leg should be extended to the floor and check that it's secure. When returning to the ladder, the firefighter will back out of the building feet first with his stomach positioned flat on the window sill. Once the firefighter's feet are on the ladder rungs, he can exit the building and climb down to safe ground.
