Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822, in Dole, France, the son of a humble tanner. Although he first showed a talent for drawing, his passion for science ultimately led him to the prestigious École Normale Supérieure, where he began a journey that would forever transform medicine and biology.

In the nineteenth century, when disease was still widely blamed on mysterious "bad air," Pasteur demonstrated that microscopic organisms were responsible for fermentation and many infectious diseases.
