WATERLOO : THE LAST CHARGE

1815 , June 18th, the anniversary of Marengo. Once more Napoleon thinks he will defeat the coalition formed against him. Hasn’t he been so often victorious ? Hasn’t he built up the most achieved war tool ever seen ?

Two days ago he put to flight the Prussian army at Ligny. English troops, scared, only think of shipping back !

At the foreground of the scene represented by LES ETAINS DU PRINCE, the eagle-bearer of the 14th Dragoon Regiment sabres his way through the enemy infantrymen, during one of the most famous charges which took place at Waterloo, lead by the bravest chief of the whole army, the Marshal Ney.

The battle remains a long time doubtful; finally the English-Prussian coalition takes advantage of the late involvment of the Marshal Grouchy who couldn’t engage his troops in fight on time.

That bloody event ended the glorious adventure of the Imperial Army who gave up overrun by numbers but never blameworthy.
